Dolos — User Manual
1. Introduction
Dolos is a creative signal-shaping audio effect by ReplicatAudio.
Inspired by natural forces, its interface uses memorable metaphors
(“Energy,” “Earth,” “Sky”) for rapid experimentation and musical
discovery. Dolos is available as VST3, AU, and Standalone.
2. Quick Start
- Load Dolos as an insert FX or run the standalone.
- Choose a preset or initialize settings.
-
Adjust primary controls (Energy, Sky, Sea, Earth, etc.) to sculpt your
sound.
- Save your patch when you find something you like.
3. Main Interface Overview
-
The interface groups parameters by function, labeled with unique names
and icons (see below).
- Top bar: Patch management, Bypass All, and theme controls.
- Meters show input and output; main controls are center stage.
- Scope view offers live signal feedback.
4. Parameter Reference
- Energy: Main input gain adjustment.
-
Sky / Sea: Positive/negative clipping. Tighten or
expand signal peaks.
-
Canyons / Plateaus: Positive/negative offsets for
asymmetry and drive taste.
- Earth: DC bias, shifts the signal baseline.
-
Gravity: Wave folding for introducing harmonics and
complexity.
-
HP Cut / HP Res: Highpass filter (cutoff &
resonance).
-
LP Cut / LP Res: Lowpass filter (cutoff &
resonance).
-
Presence: Wet/dry mix of processed & original
signal.
-
Dirty Power On: Engage pre-gain noise for grit.
-
High Voltage / Deep Mode / High Gravity: Additional
boost/modes for specific circuits.
-
Bypass controls: Disable processing globally or per
section.
5. Visualizations
- Live scope/plot view for input and output signals.
-
Curve visualizations help demonstrate effect of parameter changes.
6. Patch Management
- Save and load your own patches.
- Recall factory or default patches via the patch menu.
- Patches store all main parameter settings.
7. Advanced Features
- Swap processing order with chain algorithms.
- Customize interface appearance (themes/palettes).
- All parameters are automatable in compatible DAWs.
- MIDI control supported for hands-on workflows.
8. Troubleshooting & Tips
- If you encounter silence: check Bypass and Presence controls.
- For subtle effects, start with low Energy and moderate Gravity.
-
Most dramatic results come from combining asymmetry (Canyons/Plateaus)
and fold/bias settings.
